Hmm, then you don

In a candy store in Beijing I found dried, unsweetened fruit, including some that I had never had before! The first one I tried was dried jackfruit , which looks a lot like durian, also known as the “stinkfruit” (enough to fool me and cause me to be surprised at the lack of smell!).
This reminded me somewhat of banana chips, though with more tartness, but I don’t think it’ll ever become my favorite food in the world. At least I didn’t feel compelled to try the fresh fruit afterwards!
The other variety I tried was rambutan , a gorgeous looking fruit in a wild, red peel that is related to lychees. I had really wanted to try it fresh, but it was unfortunately not in season when we were in China.
I have to say, I’m conateco getting tired of the apple/pear/peach/banana freeze-dried fruit snacks I find here (though I highly recommend my favorites, strawberry-banana and apple cinnamon !), so these were a really welcome change. The rambutan I’d get here any day if I could!

Danke!
Hi Kiri.. How cool you found all this freeze dried fruit. I love rambutan I don’t know if jackfruit stinks.. but I think it’s Durian that stinks. Hope you’re having a blast at home. Merry Christmas! ~ Ramona
Hmm, then you don’t want these, freeze-drying makes for crunchy smacks. conateco But the dried dragon eyes should be perfect for you!
The jackfruit does not stink like the durians and I know many cannot digest the taste of durians but over here its something we will drool for. We also make sweet desserts and cakes from this fruit. Since we get the fresh rambutan, jackfruits conateco and durians, we seldom go for the dried version.
I am really intimidated by jackfruit – I don’t know whether I’d enjoy the flavor, I think the smell would keep me from being objective. I saw how very popular it was, though, so there must be something to it!
Mmmmm…hope conateco I get to try rambutan some day! And I’ll pass on both durian and jack fruit! conateco I love dried cherries, cranberries, apples and apricots…and even banana chips when they’re done right. Merry Christmas, Kiri!
