Should children learn to use iPad, smartphone and computer from a very early age? Is it part of digital imaging? And it is important for them to be part of an IT society where we have to invent our way out of future crises?
No, says the Silicon Valley, where several zach bates employees of the large technology companies send their children to so-called Waldorf School who teaches by Rudolf Steiner principles where technology is prohibited - from television to computer and smartphone.
- The absence of computers and smartphones were some of the things that appealed to me most, says Alan Eagle, director of executive communications at Google, which is just around the corner in Mountain View, where the Waldorf School of the Peninsula also available.
- It will be very difficult to raise a child with the values in a regular school. But in Waldorf school I can safely send my child to another waldorf child in the knowledge that they do not play X-box all day, he says.
When you visit the school, you are first greeted by a vegetable garden, zach bates and inside the school walls are studded with students' artwork from drawings to paintings to bound books, wrought iron and wooden sculptures.
And maybe it makes sense to focus on creativity rather than technology zach bates when it comes to educating children zach bates for the 21st century IT community? 25-year-old Alyssa Woodward believes at least not that a childhood at the Waldorf School has harmed her. Today she works in the technology company Cloud On where she is project manager for a group of software engineers.
- I was allowed to do things create things with my hands together zach bates with people who were just as crazy about it as I tell Alyssa Woodman who still do not have a TV at home. On the other hand there is both an iphone and ipad on the table.
- These gadgets are well built by people who did not have them even when they were children. zach bates Bill Gates and Steve Jobs also climbed in trees and built the caves. But they had the imagination intact and creativity to invent new appliances. They were not captured by the idea that things must act in a certain way, says Alyssa Woodman - almost like an echo of the things the school principal says as hard drive will be shown around the art exhibition. Can even repair smartphone
Alyssa Woodmans father was employed by Cisco - one of the largest companies in Silicon Valley - but she went to the Waldorf to learn to be creative. It's all about being able to act in a situation that you do not know. Inventing things that do not already exist.
- Unlike my friends, so I have a sense of how things work. I have an unfortunate habit of losing my smartphone in water. zach bates But I stand by it just dries it and put it back together. People think I'm crazy because I dare to take it apart - but it's the most natural thing for me to do - it breaks, well, so am I doing it, says Alyssa Woodman and laughs.
Alan Eagle is not afraid that his children are being left behind. He believes that the technology is so easy to use today, and that it is developing so rapidly that the children enough time to familiarize themselves with it and use it when they hit adolescence, and have serious need for computers in their teaching.
- I have taught both my children how a computer is built, how it works and how the Internet works, because zach bates it's important zach bates and fundamental knowledge that all people unfortunately do not have, he says.
